Schools & Educators

OnTrack Greenville is grounded in long-standing research that has proven that middle school attendance and grades, particularly in Math and English, are the two single greatest indicators of high school graduation and post-secondary success. In fact, these two indicators are more highly correllated to high school graduation than family educational level, income and race.

Research has also proven that sixth graders who fail Math or English/reading, attend school less than 80% of the time, or received a poor final behavior grade in a core course only have a 10 to 20% chance of graduating on time.

I hope we can all see the urgency of students who are struggling. We don't have time to waste. Because a student doesn't have a year - within a year, they've lost a lot. They shut down. It's more difficult for students coming from poverty, or just coming from stressful situations. They don't have to come from poverty to be struggling.

 - Dr. Jason McCreary, Director of Accountability and Quality Assurance, Greenville County Schools

However, there is hope. Research has also proven that by intervening early through evidence-based interventions, schools and community partners can not only get students back on track, but also help break the cycle of poverty in their lives.

The interventions and partners funded by OnTrack Greenville are evidence-based, meaning they are program models proven to improve attendance, behavior or course performancing, including:

  • Communities in Schools of Greenville
  • Greenville County School District
  • Prisma Health System Bradshaw Institute for Community Child Health & Advocacy
  • BellXcel

Initially piloted in four high-need middle schools in Greenville County (Berea, Lakeview and Tanglewood Middle Schools, and Greenville Early College), the OnTrack Greenville model has now scaled to include components at additional schools across the area.

Utilitizing the innovative Early Warning and Response System, OnTrack Greenville is ensuring students and their needs are addressed in real time, with support in place to help get them back on track before they completely disengage.
